Welcome!

Welcome!  We are excited to host this Vanguard Training event on June 28, 2014 in response to the huge need we have felt for it in our community.

The Vanguard Vision for an educational setting is to:

(1) Encourage faith in God as the students ultimate mentor and source of truth through the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ

(2) Help the students find value in their own unique mission, introduce them to various communication styles, and encourage them to gain the skills, talents and gifts necessary so that they may communicate that mission to the world

(3) Help the students come face-to-face with greatness as they study the world, history, people, and science in order to prepare them to become future leaders* in society.

(4) Create an environment of love, respect, decency, trust, and confidence

(5) Teach service-oriented leadership

Through the years we have sought for an found wonderful principles and methods to help realize this vision.  It is so exciting to see youth and their leaders exploring their individual passions as they find their God-given missions!

As a participant in this event, you will be expected to come prepared to teach and share things you have studied and read in the different classes and workshops we will provide.  We will also provide mentors who are experienced in the Vanguard method who will seek to follow the spirit in guiding the discussions.  It will be amazing!

We will also be blessed by two special guest presenters Audrey Rindlisbacher and Neil Flinders, and you will be fed intellectually, spiritually, and physically, as we include lunch and dinner in our low registration cost.   This is a non-profit event where the discussion of God and religion is welcome.

Please read/review the following material before attending:
2. "Leadership Education" by the DeMilles (particularly pgs 40-56 and 153-224 are good for yearly--or more!--review, but reading this book will help explain a lot of the elements of Vanguard, like socializing as families, the value of projects, the need for master-level youth to design their own class for the year, etc.)

4. Increase in Learning by Elder David Bednar - chapter 2
5. Teach the Children by Neil J. Flinders - chapters 12-14 and 18-19
6. Norms and Nobility by David Hicks - preface, prologue and chapter 1 (this is hard to get a copy of; I have one "loaner" copy...just do what you can!)
Additional reading suggestions:
-Oliver DeMille's address from the TJEd 2007 Forum: "The Eighth Key and the Four Levels of Leadership"--I don't purchase many things, but this is a treasure...very central to the Vanguard vision.

-A Thomas Jefferson Education by Oliver DeMille

We will update this blog with relevant information as it comes available.

We look forward to seeing you there!
