In Vanguard, we recognize that God is our ultimate mentor and that parents are the best "second" mentor to our youth. So where does that leave us, as the mentors of the class?
I have found over the years that not only is it my job to prayerfully select material that will bring inspiration and power into the studies of my youth, but to serve as the "protector of the environment." Without the "respectful and inspiring peer environment" from our mission statement, it is challenging if not impossible for the youth to feel free to teach and learn from one another.
In this class we will explore the power of this principle: "creating a respectful and inspiring peer environment increases the potential for learning and growth."
Please listen to, read or do one or more of the following to better prepare yourself for this experience:
-1 Corinthians 12
-do a word study on "respectful" or "inspiring"--see how to do a word study here
-read the material on the page at lds.org: "create a learning atmosphere"
Then, write down or document in some form your feelings and impressions of what you learned. Feel free to find a song, write a poem, or create something from your studies and bring it to share with us.
